The master of public administration (M.P.A.) is a multidisciplinary, nonbusiness degree that offers an outstanding education for men and women seeking a dynamic and exciting career in the public or nonprofit sector.  The M.P.A. is suited to students with any undergraduate major.  The M.P.A. is a highly marketable degree in a range of professional and occupational areas including city management, municipal services management, urban planning, economic development, industrial recruitment, community development, and general administration.  Demand for highly trained public and not-for-profit managers has steadily increased, both in this region and beyond.

The M.P.A. program builds on a long tradition of higher education in city management and economic planning and development at ETSU.  Students completing the city management concentration receive the master of city management (M.C.M.) degree.  ETSU graduates hold important, visible positions throughout the nation.  Synergies with the Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) and Master of Accountancy (M.Acc.) provide a wide range of instructional resources and the flexibility to take courses that span the public and private sector boundaries.
