Dr. Miller completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Tennessee receiving a B.S. degree in Aerospace Engineering in 1972. He completed two Master of Science degrees: the first in Systems Management from the University of Southern California in 1977 and the second in Logistics Management from the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) in 1978. His Ph.D. was completed in Operations Management at the University of North Carolina (Chapel Hill) in 1985. Dr. Miller has been a Certified Professional Logistician from 1979.
Dr. Miller was an Assistant and Associate Professor at AFIT from 1985 to 1994. During this time he served as the Department Chair in Management, the Graduate Programs Director, and Associate Dean. He received the Outstanding Professor Award in 1986 and the National Society of Logistics Engineers Graduate Logistics Educator in 1989.
Dr. Miller has been at East Tennessee State University since July 1994. He was awarded the Outstanding New Faculty Member Award in 1999. In 2000 he became an Associate Professor and was nominated to become the Department of Management and Marketing Chairman.
Dr. Miller's areas of teaching include Operations Management, Decision Science, Transportation, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, and Quality. His areas of research include environmental management, healthcare management, operations and quantitative educational issues.
