Brief Biography
A graduate of East Tennessee State University and The University of North Carolina at Greensboro, Dr. Anna Roberts is a Professor of Merchandising in the Department of Management and Marketing. Areas of expertise include apparel construction and design, apparel product analysis, textiles, psychological/ sociological aspects of dress, visual merchandising, and fashion advertising and promotion.
Research interests include exhibition of original apparel design in juried competitions, documentation of rare examples of outsider textile art (textile designs of those operating "outside" mainstream society), and historic apparel and textiles. Dr. Roberts has exhibited juried apparel designs regionally, nationally, and internationally, including a by-invitation-only exhibition in Lyon, France extended to only twenty-five designers worldwide by the International Textiles and Apparel Association.
Dr. Roberts has held numerous leadership positions with the International Textiles and Apparel Association and the Tennessee Association of Family and Consumer Sciences. She has also served the Tennessee State Department of Education as Family and Consumer Sciences Consultant, and advises the Collegiate Merchandising Association, an award winning student organization at East Tennessee State University.
Honors include College of Applied Science and Technology Foundation Teaching Award (awarded two times), Kappa Omicron Excellence in Teaching Award (awarded three times), National Kappa Omicron Nu Advisor of the Year Award, Tennessee Association of Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America Distinguished Service Award, and Tennessee Association of Family and Consumer Sciences District D Service Award.
